PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The UNMC Munroe-Meyer Institute Autism Care for Toddlers Clinic (ACT) was created to close a meaningful gap in access to care for children with autism spectrum disorders and their families in North Omaha. Located within the Baker Place Shopping Center at 5050 Ames Avenue, the clinic transformed an existing commercial space into a welcoming, community-based clinic destination where intervention services, parent training, applied behavior analysis, and diagnostic support can be delivered closer to the families who need them most.
Pact Studios helped MMI look beyond the limitations of the existing 7,920-square-foot tenant space. Through careful planning, the team translated a complex program into an efficient, flexible layout that supports therapy, assessment, play, family engagement, and staff collaboration while making the most of the building’s existing infrastructure.
The design approach balanced mission, schedule, and budget by retaining and repurposing existing spaces where possible, minimizing plumbing modifications, and directing resources toward the elements that would most improve care delivery and the user experience. With an aggressive schedule, Pact Studios maintained momentum through clear communication, remote and in-person collaboration, and close coordination with the client and design team. The result is more than a renovated space; it is a purposeful reuse of an existing building that brings specialized services into an underserved community and creates a flexible, colorful environment that supports learning, engagement, and growth while expanding the MMI brand.
